Our 4th grade Wax Museum project brought history to life! Students researched famous trailblazers using Who Was books and note-taking to craft their own speeches. On presentation day, they transformed into “wax statues,” standing still until a button press brought them to life to share their inspiring stories. A creative and memorable way to celebrate learning and history in action!

Ms. Starr's class reviewed fractions with like denominators using Sour Patch Kids! They first identified the denominator, then each color's numerator, then which fraction was the greatest and the least, and finally; they ordered the fractions from least to greatest. Of course they got to enjoy the candy at the end ❤️🧡💙💚💛

On Monday, 5th Graders at LES participated in a full-day workshop called Reducing Student Cruelty and Enhancing Caring Relationships with Dr. Marcia McEvoy.
Students participated in role-plays, guided practice, and discussion to develop empathy, build skills for reducing cruelty amongst peers, and learn what it looked and felt like to an empowered bystanders to proactively respond to hurtful behavior when they see it.
The workshop was transformational and incredibly empowering for many students. 5th Grade would like to thank PALS for providing the funding for this workshop and making this experience possible!

All 5th grade classes traveled to the Junior Achievement BizTown facility in Grand Rapids for simulated experience that gave students the opportunity through play-based learning.
Before attending the trip, students participated in a financial literacy curriculum that gave them the background knowledge and preparation for the trip.
At JA BizTown, all 79 5th graders carried out their duties in a real-world job, develop and practice personal finance skills, and experience being a productive citizen in JA Biz Town.
This was the inaugural trip for 5th grade to attend JA BizTown and the 5th grade teachers want to thank LEAF for providing the grant monies to make this amazing experience possible!

The students in Miss Sweet's Resource Room earned an exciting reward last Tuesday! They worked hard towards a "Starbucks Day" and got the full coffee shop experience-- complete with a menu of (non-caffeinated!!) yummy drinks to choose from, pastel cake pops, and real Starbucks cups! It was a great way to celebrate a job well done!
