Robotics
Wolfpack Robotics is an initiative through FIRST(R) (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) to implement robotics teams and curriculum into K-12 at Laingsburg Community Schools. We are very excited to offer FIRST(R) programming district-wide starting with the 2022-23 school year.
FIRST(R) is an international program that "combines the excitement of sports with the rigors of science and technology." As students progress from learning in an open-ended environment in elementary school to building a 125-pound robot from scratch in high school, they embrace the iterative design process and learn how to collaborate with their peers and adults alike.
FIRST(R) inspires young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, inspire innovation and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication and leadership.
FIRST(R) is broken into five different leagues, each covering a portion of the K-12 structure at Laingsburg:
FIRST LEGO League Discover for Kindergarten (integrated into the curriculum at the ECEC)
FIRST LEGO League Explore for K-3 (12-hours of extracurricular activities in the fall)
FIRST LEGO League Challenge for upper elementary (extracurricular activities in the fall)
FIRST Tech Challenge for middle school (extracurricular activities in the fall)
FIRST Robotics Competition for high school (a year-round extracurricular with a competition season between January and May)
Please contact the FIRST(R) Robotics Director Paul Garrett or Red Thunder Robotics, the LHS team for more information. You can also visit https://www.FirstInMichigan.us to learn more about FIRST(R) robotics.
