High School Counseling Program

The mission of Laingsburg Community Schools’ counseling program is to provide a comprehensive and developmental counseling program that addresses the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. The school counseling program is an essential part of the total educational program. School counselors are advocates who provide support to maximize all students' potential and academic achievement. In partnership with educators, parents or guardians, and the community, school counselors establish a culture of high expectations where students are empowered to reach their potential while utilizing their unique abilities and interests.

For further information on the counseling program, counseling materials, or procedures by which a parent may limit a student's participation in the counseling program, please contact the school counselor in your child's school.

Seniors

The summer between junior and senior year is the time to start applying for colleges if you think this is the path you will pursue after graduation. High school counselors are available to walk with students and their families through this multifaceted process. We want you to be successful! Please reach out to your counselor if you have any questions.

College Applications: Seniors should begin completing college applications starting as soon as possible. Online applications are available on the websites of the institutions of interest. Applications typically should be submitted to the college by September 30, but deadlines vary. Students and parents are responsible for verifying requirements.

Transcripts: A transcript can be requested through Parchment.com. Students should create an account in Parchment, then order a transcript be sent to the college where they are applying.

College Entrance Exam Scores: ACT or SAT scores should be requested by the student directly from the College Board or ACT. All colleges will require scores before admissions decisions will be made. Make sure to set up your account before you start applying to colleges.

FAFSA: Free Application For Federal Student Aid

All students planning to attend college must complete a financial aid form at FAFSA.gov. The financial aid application is available beginning October 1. For priority consideration for state and federal aid programs, complete the FAFSA by March 1. Check the FAFSA site to confirm dates.

Financial Aid Night: Students and parents are invited to a Financial Aid Night where local specialists will be presenting information on how to complete the FAFSA form. Dates and times will be available through the counseling office.

College Visits: The best way to decide if a particular college is a good fit is to visit. Students should set up visits through the college admissions office during their junior and senior years. Another way to learn about a college is to attend the college visits happening at LHS. Many colleges will set up visitations at the high school so students can become familiar with them. Students can sign up in the counseling office to visit with college admission representatives.
