What Are the Common Core State Standards?
The Common Core State Standards are learning goals that describe what students should know and be able to do in math and English language arts at each grade level. They help make sure all students are learning the same important skills—like problem-solving, reading, and writing—so they’re ready for the next grade and for life beyond school.
How Our Curriculum Supports These Standards
Our district’s curriculum is built to align with these standards. This means teachers use lessons and activities that help students practice the skills outlined in the Common Core every day. With hands-on learning, real-world connections, and a focus on critical thinking, our goal is to help every student grow and succeed.
How Parents Can Help at Home
Families play an important role in helping children succeed in school. You can support learning at home by setting aside time each day for reading—either reading together or encouraging independent reading. Talk with your child about what they’re learning in class, ask questions, and show interest in their schoolwork.
Create a quiet, organized space for homework and help your child develop routines for completing assignments and studying for tests. Practicing basic math facts, spelling words, or writing at home can strengthen important skills. Encourage curiosity by exploring topics your child enjoys—through books, nature walks, or hands-on projects.
Most importantly, stay connected with your child’s teacher. Communicating regularly and celebrating your child’s efforts and progress helps build confidence and a love of learning that lasts.
