Laingsburg Elementary School - Media Center

At Laingsburg Elementary School, students come to the library once a week with their class and are introduced to many new books and reacquainted with old favorites.

By hearing stories read aloud and checking out books to read with family or on their own, children have many opportunities to discover new worlds through books and develop a lifelong love of reading.

The library at Laingsburg Elementary School is staffed with volunteers who are dedicated to helping students develop a love of reading and begin building the skills they will need to be successful in today's information-rich world. Our library provides an organized collection of resources for pleasure reading as well as research.

In addition to weekly library classes, the Media Center is host to many other activities including author visits, class presentations and two book fairs during the school year.

The library is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 am - 1:30 pm.

Checkout Policy

  • Students may check out one book at a time. Students in grades 3-5 may check out a second book as needed when it comes to report time.
  • Books are due back the following week on library day, but they may be renewed as needed.
  • Students may check out books during their weekly library visit, as well as times when the library is open but no class is in session. A student must return one of his/her overdue books to be allowed to check out another book. During their library visit, students who have overdue books are still encouraged to look at books and make a selection to be held at the desk. This way when the overdue book is returned (usually the next day), they are ready to go with another book. There are no overdue fines.
  • If a book is lost, a family may either replace the book with an identical copy from a bookstore or may pay for the book and a replacement copy will be ordered. If the book is later found and returned in good condition, parents will be reimbursed for the cost of the book. Once the book has been reported as lost, a child may begin checking out books again.

Volunteers help in many different ways at the libraries ... from assisting students during library visits to shelving books and working the circulation desk. Interested in becoming a library volunteer? Please contact the school office at 517-651-5067 ext.1147 or Send us an Email.
