Laingsburg Early Childhood Education Center Media Center
At Laingsburg Early Childhood Education Center, students come to the library once a week with their class and are introduced to many new books and reacquainted with old favorites. By hearing stories read aloud and checking out books to read with family or on their own, children have many opportunities to discover new worlds through books and develop a lifelong love of reading.
The library at Laingsburg ECEC is staffed with volunteers who are dedicated to sharing their love of reading with children. Our Media Center also houses a mini computer lab where students can begin building the skills they will need to be successful in today's information-rich world.
In addition to weekly library activities, the ECEC Media Center hosts two Book Fairs each school year--one in December and one in early may during Grandparents' Day.
The Media Center is open every day for before-school care and throughout the day for music classes and other special events. Volunteers staff the library one day a week for Kindergarten and Young Five library visits.
- Students may check out one book at one time.
- Students check out books during their weekly library visit and they are due back the following week on library day.
- A student must return one his/her overdue book to be allowed to check out another book. During their library visit, students who have overdue books are still encouraged to look at books and enjoy them while in the library. There are no overdue fines.
- If a book is lost, a family may either replace the book with an identical copy from a bookstore or may pay for the book and a replacement copy will be ordered. If the book is later found and returned in good condition, parents will be reimbursed for the cost of the book. Once the book has been reported as lost, a child may begin checking out books again.
Volunteers help in many different ways at the libraries ... from assisting students during library visits to shelving books and working the circulation desk. Interested in becoming a library volunteer? Please contact the school office at 517-651-3100.
